Herbert A. Hutchinson

The Author has earned Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Aeronautical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology which prepared him well for the development (concept formulation, laboratory and flight testing, and analysis of large databases of technical and science content) of many advanced technologies operating in the world environments. The first quarter of his 40+ year professional career were with the Georgia Tech Research Institute as a wind tunnel engineer and with two major airframe manufacturers (in New York and Texas) developing and testing flight vehicle systems for the US Air Force. The middle half of his career was as a Federal Civil Servant (at Grade GS-15) developing and applying advanced technologies for flight systems and was Chief System Engineer for development of the USAF F-16 Multinational Weapon System. He served on three Presidential level technological fact-finding committees and several crash investigations (with multiple fatalities). Those achievements caused him to be selected as the Chief of the Flight Technologies Division in the Air Force Systems Command.

After leaving Federal Civil Service, the Author continued his professional system engineering career with the Northrop Grumman Corporation in Hawthorne, California, as the Technical Director for the joint design of a candidate advanced technology fighter for NATO in a 3-year long partnership program with the Dornier Company in Friedrichshafen, Germany. The Author was then named to be the Manager of System Engineering for the Northrop/McDonnell Douglas stealth Advanced Tactical Fighter, YF-23, until his full retirement at the end of 1994.
